**_A cost consolidation exercise gave Pango Group’s comms team something they weren’t shopping for: visibility into what employees actually read_**

Most platform switches start with frustration. This one started with a spreadsheet.

Pango Group had more than one email campaign platform running across the business, each doing broadly the same job for a different corner of the organization. One team was already working in ContactMonkey, and another was on Constant Contact. From a budget perspective the question answered itself: why pay twice?

So they consolidated. On paper, that was the entire project.

What Michelle Sorensen, Executive Communications & Operations Coordinator found once her team was actually working in the new platform was the part nobody had put in the business case.

### The problem with sending internal comms through a marketing tool

Constant Contact is built for external marketing. That distinction sounds theoretical until you’re the person trying to build an employee newsletter in it.

“Constant Contact had clunky formatting issues,” said Michelle.

Michelle’s summary is to the point, and anyone who has fought a marketing email builder into looking like an internal update will recognize it. Internal comms have different requirements: multiple content blocks, embedded video, different sections for different audiences, layouts that hold up in Outlook. Tools designed to push a promotional message to a customer list tend to resist all of it.

The second gap was more discrete but mattered more. They could send, but they couldn’t really see what happened next.

### What changed: the reporting

The formatting improved, as expected. The analytics did something more interesting.

“Better analytics has helped us track performance on various levels and better tailor our content adjustments for improved readership and training.”

“Various levels” means Michelle’s team isn’t looking at a single open rate for the whole company. They can see how different content performs, and for whom, which turns a send from a broadcast into a feedback loop. Every email tells them something about what to do differently in the next one.

The reporting isn’t only sharpening newsletters. It’s shaping how Pango Group delivers training content to its people. When you can see which material is being read and which is being scrolled past, you stop guessing about whether a rollout landed.

### Why she’s glad they switched

Michelle’s own summary of the move covers the three things that changed day to day:

“Working within ContactMonkey has been a much better experience compared to Constant Contact with more customizable formatting options, better analytics, and a better interface. I’m glad we made the switch.”

The order matters. Formatting solved the immediate irritation. The interface made the work faster. The analytics changed the work itself.

### The takeaway for comms teams

If your organization is running employee comms through a marketing platform, there’s a reasonable chance you’re absorbing two costs without naming either: the hours lost fighting a builder that wasn’t designed for your use case, and the decisions you’re making blind because the reporting only tells you what an external marketer needs to know.

Pango Group went looking for savings and found both.
