By the end, you’ll have a great feel for what’s available on the market, and what option would work best for you.

What it can do: We’ve designed ContactMonkey specifically for sales teams, though anybody can use it. It’s built to integrate with your existing email list of contacts and help you sell more. ContactMonkey allows you to connect your Outlook inbox with Salesforce, which is helpful for teams that keep all their contact information within Salesforce.
We’ve also created the program to track your email opens and link clicks as a team and provide advanced analytics. You can see which cities are most popular for prospects to open your emails, when they get opened, and which links they click.
You can also use our unique Mail Merge feature, which allows you to send a single personalized email to all of your contacts from a spreadsheet or your Salesforce database.
You’ll get real-time alerts, as well as documented information in the email itself. ContactMonkey lives in the sidebar of your Outlook screen, so you can review data and send emails immediately without any additional setup.
Pricing: ContactMonkey has an excellent 14-day free trial. You can play around with everything we have to offer before you commit! After that, it’s just $10/month for professional users, $15/month per user for teams, and $25/month per user for full Salesforce features.
Limitations: None that we know of! We’re constantly improving the software, so if you spot something we should add, be sure to let us know.
What it can do: RocketBolt is meant as a digital sales assistant, in the words of the founder. At its heart, RocketBolt is a program designed to track website visits and social media tracking, but it has email tracking as an added feature.
RocketBolt will track your emails as well as monitor website visits and social media mentions. Its strength is in Gmail tracking, but it’s available for Outlook on Windows as well. It isn’t available if you’re using Outlook Online for Mac, however.
Pricing: RocketBolt charges based on the number of leads you’d like to track, and starts at $79/month for 50 leads.
Limitations: Because there is so much information packed into RocketBolt, the program is a little complex for our tastes. But depending on your design preferences, this may be a look you prefer.
What it can do: Like ContactMonkey, Yesware syncs with Salesforce so you can update your database with each communication. You’ll also get the ability to send emails automatically in a follow-up sequence.
You’ll also get access to analytics and real-time data on who is reading and clicking on the emails you send.
Pricing: Yesware costs $12/month per user for pro, $25/month per user for a team, and $55/month per user for an enterprise. It also has a four-week free trial on each plan.
Limitations: Yesware is designed in many ways to handle your sales for you, but this can be a problem. While the drip campaigns are a unique feature, they can be too scripted to make an effective sale and might make your prospect feel like they’re just on an email list.
What it can do: ToutApp can track your emails, websites, and documents to give you insight into what is happening with the communication you make with leads and prospects.
You’ll also be able to integrate the features into Salesforce or another CRM, and you can use its analytics feature to track calendar events, emails, phone calls, and other communication to find patterns.
Pricing: ToutApp costs $49/month per user for premium, and you can request a custom quote for a team. It comes with a free 14-day trial.
Limitations: If you have a small sales team or limited data, ToutApp will probably overwhelm you with options. As a full-scale sales management platform, it’s also more expensive per user than other programs like ContactMonkey.
What it can do: Bananatag allows you to track email opens and see the data on each email you send out. There are advanced analytics options like ContactMonkey so you can see exactly which emails work best.
You’ll also be able to create templates and use those to send different types of emails. Depending on the type of communication you want to make, you can track which templates work best.
Bananatag is designed for both sales team and internal communication tracking. This is a feature that can be helpful to see who’s read the emails you’ve sent out to other members on your current team in the same company.
Pricing: Bananatag has a free plan with five emails per month. The paid plans are $10/month for 100 tags a day, $20/month for 200 daily tags, and a custom plan for internal communication.
Limitations: Bananatag currently doesn’t allow tracking by default. Instead, you’ll need to select this option each time. For busy sales reps and high-performing teams, this small step is easy to forget. Unfortunately, once you’ve sent the email, it’s impossible to go back and track it.
ContactMonkey includes this by default, meaning there’s one less step between writing the email and getting personalized feedback about your prospect.
What it can do: Newton is a mail tracker app that’s an email application, like Apple Mail or Thunderbird. It has built-in capability to track emails, snooze messages, and delay sending emails as well. It works with a variety of email accounts, including Gmail, G Suite, Outlook, Office 365, Yahoo, and iCloud.
It’s a standalone app, but it can work with Windows as well as macOS, Android, and iOS, including Apple Watch and Android Wear.
Pricing: Newton is $49/year, and comes with a 14-day free trial.
Limitations: Because it’s not a plugin for an existing web app, Newton probably won’t work for a lot of people. There is no web app feature (like Gmail or Outlook online), so you’ll need to download it on all the devices you use. This can pose a problem for users, especially those with restrictions on what they can download on work computers.
What it can do: If you use HubSpot as your CRM, it contains a few built-in features that will handle email tracking for you. Specifically, it will track your email opens, link clicks, and downloads.
Anytime a user interacts with your email, you’ll get a notification that you can integrate with HubSpot’s other features, like sending an automatic email sequence.
Pricing: HubSpot doesn’t sell their email tracking separate from their CRM software. You’ll need to start using the full HubSpot plan to use this feature. HubSpot is $200/month for 100 contacts, $800/month for 1,000 contacts, and $2,400/month for up to 10,000 contacts.
Limitations: The biggest limitation of the HubSpot software is the most obvious: it only works with HubSpot. If you’re using another CRM, like Salesforce, you’re going to struggle. There simply isn’t a way to get started with this software. You’re going to have duplicate work for everything you do, and it’s going to be a frustrating process.
Another issue is that the HubSpot software only works with Gmail, G Suite, Outlook, and Office 365. If you use an account through Yahoo or iCloud, this probably isn’t the best software for you to use.
The final word
